Avoid Summer Slide

What is summer slide?  It is not a piece of playground equipment.  It refers to the loss of academic skills and knowledge children experience during the summer when they are out of school.  Children who don’t read during the summer can lose up to three months of reading progress and that loss has a cumulative, long-term effect.  Avoid losing learning skills by keeping those brains busy over the summer months.  This will help save time and energy having to re-learn material in the Fall.

  • Students will have access to their Raz-Kids and dreambox Learning accounts through the summer.
  • Check out the SPS website for tips to keep students learning during the break.
  • Seattle Public Library launched their Summer of Learning Program.  Download the Activity Guide and check out the books on the summer recommended list for K-2 and 3-5.
  • Amazon Books is having a summer reading challenge, learn more about it here.  Participating stores located at Bellevue Square and U-Village.
  • Reading B-I-N-G-O.
