Reynolds’ Wrap

The end of the year is just around the corner! As we head into the home stretch, I want to take a moment to thank all of the dedicated parents and volunteers we have at Lafayette. This has been a fantastic year and the future holds many more good things to come. Special thanks to Rachel Hagenson and those that helped shower the teachers and staff with well-deserved praise and pampering last week.

This Thursday, May 15th, is our final PTA General Assembly meeting of the year (7pm in the cafeteria, free childcare provided in the gym). The agenda will be full as we have a lot to cover before we adjourn for the year. During this meeting, Annie Higgins and the Nominating Committee will present the slate of candidates up for election. The Nominating Committee was relentless in their pursuit of these candidates and all of the selections bring a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to their potential positions. Taeya Lauer will also present the proposed budget for 2014-2015. The Budget Committee had many programs and line items to consider and have drafted a budget that addresses current needs while also looking to the future. Congratulations to both committees for their hard work and jobs well done.

As the end of school approaches there are a lot of opportunities for us to gather and celebrate. Please see the “Important Dates” section to capture all that is on the calendar. Of particular note – Friday May 16th, Sarah Dillard leads a team of volunteers in putting on the Hollywood Art Show & Spring Fling. This event will be sure to instill pride in your children’s art skills while also letting them play and have fun at the same time. The combination is new this year and we hope you all can join us to ensure its success.

Another upcoming date of importance is Thursday, June 5th and our Volunteer “Thank You” Tea. This is a time where we take a moment to recognize all those that have helped with the many events and through the classroom all year long. During this event I will also announce the Golden Acorn Award winner. Nominations are being accepted now through May 31st either by email to or by submitting a form on the PTA’s website.

Lastly – I want to announce to those that have not heard, that my family is moving on next year. We will be moving to Madison as well as Fairmount Park for the now local AP program. I have enjoyed being part of the Lafayette community and will miss all of those that I have worked with and consider friends. VP Katy Walum will guide the PTA forward with charisma and passion and I will remain a resource for any to contact should questions arise. I hope to see many of you around our community.

And…that’s a wrap.

Sean Reynolds
PTA President
