Wow!! What a fun and productive evening we had at this year’s Auction! It really was a fantastic event bringing our community together while we raised funds for the PTA and ultimately our children. A HUGE thank you goes out to Leslie Francis and the entire Auction Committee, along with the many, many, many volunteers that helped it all come together. If you didn’t make it this year, be sure to mark it on your calendar as soon as the date is set for 2015.
The Auction was a perfect example of an activity that coincides with our recently adopted mission statement:
“Support the school’s academic success and enrich the student experience while building a strong community.”
Not only did we get to interact as a parent group but we shared fun times with teachers and administrators. And the best part – by the end of the night we had successfully surpassed our budgeted goal by an impressive margin.
I hope everyone seized the opportunity to give us guidance on how to allocate the funds we raised through the survey that was sent out. Taeya Lauer and the Budget Committee are hard at work crafting the plan for next year and we have many different areas that need consideration. The line items we fund through our budget provide the most direct impact on supporting the school’s academic success. We are on track to have the budget for review and approval at our May General Assembly meeting.
For those that missed the February meeting – we had a significant turnout for Amy Lang’s seminar on the “Birds + Bees + Kids”. Amy does offer webinars for those of you that missed the meeting but would like to learn more. Thank you to Katy Walum for coordinating the guest speaker and enriching the parent community.
The spring enrichment offering is out – yet another spoke supporting our mission statement. Please utilize the classes offered to pursue concepts and activities that don’t find enough time during the school day. Thank you to Rachel Hagenson for the significant amount of time and effort put in to organize this program.
Looking ahead – the nominating committee continues to work diligently to put forth recommendations for next year’s elected officers. Please contact Annie Higgins if you have someone to nominate or if you are interested. We will be voting on officers in April.
As spring approaches and people spend more time at drop-off or after school – please take a moment and introduce yourself to anyone you do not recognize. We have a fantastic community at Lafayette and everyone should know that they are a part of it.
